Tips for Nappies (Diapers) Shopping

First, you must understand the average daily diaper needs of a baby, as this will guide your nappy shopping.

Based on research, a newborn will require 8 - 12 diapers per day and they will be in the size at most for a month. So, do not stock up on newborn diapers that may be unusable by your baby within a short period. So, for new parents, it is advisable to purchase a pack each for the newborn size (Size 0) and the next size up (Size 1). Also, buying smaller packs also helps if you need to switch brands as some babies may react differently to different brands.

To further guide your shopping, we have estimated the monthly diaper needs as follows:

Based on the above guide, plan your purchase and consider buying large/ Jumbo packs as they are cheaper per nappy. However, if your baby is close to the next size up, buy in smaller packs until you switch up.

Also, consider high absorbent diapers for nighttime as they allow for better sleep.

You should change your baby's diapers when:

  • The diapers feel heavy and dangs between your baby's legs.

  • The baby starts crying due to discomfort from wetness.

  • The diapers start to leak pee or poo. This may also be an indication that you should switch to the next size as the size may be small for your baby.
